Lions head west to begin season

A road trip to Oklahoma is how the women’s basketball team will start their 2018-19 season. The Lions will be competing in the GAC/MIAA challenge in Shawnee, Oklahoma. The Lions actually hosted this challenge last season.

They will also be facing the same two opponents they did last year when they hosted the event. The Lions started the season 0-2 last year against these squads.

Tonight at 7:30 p.m. the Lions will begin their season against the host of the event, Oklahoma Baptist University. The Lions fell short to OBU last year in a 90-82 final.

Tomorrow the Lions tip-off at 4 p.m. against Southwestern Oklahoma State University. SWOSU enters play ranked 20th in the nation in preseason polls. SWOSU was victorious over the Lions 84-70 last year.

“Continue to compete and get better, just make sure everyday we are getting better as a team,” said head coach Ronnie Ressel. “Making strides defensively, and offensively making sure we are executing at a high rate.”

Ressel looks forward to seeing his squad of nine new faces, and five of those being freshman, improving each and every game as the season progresses.

Next Tuesday, Nov. 13th, the Lions will be coming home for their home opener. They will be playing host to Oklahoma Panhandle State University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. inside the Leggett and Platt Athletic Center.
