Lions gear up for MIAA tournament.

Lions baseball is currently 30-10 and are currently ranked as the number 4 team in the country.

Through 40 games the Lions are second in the MIAA (Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletic Association) with a record of 18-6.

The Lions have seven hitters hitting over 300. The leading hitter for average on the Lions is Ethan Clark with an average of 386.  The Lions have a total of 83 home runs with eleven players who have hit a homerun so far this year. The leading home run hitter for the Lions is Matt Miller with 15. The Lions have a total of 364 RBI’s (runs batted in). The team leader so far in RBI’s is Matt Miller with 51. 

“Our offense has been pretty consistent all year.” Lions head coach Bryce Darnell said.

The Lions pitching staff is also having a great start to the year. The leading pitcher in wins is Cole Woods with a record of 7-2. There are eight Lions who have recorded a win on the mound this year.  The Lions leader in lowest ERA (earned run average) is Kyle Moore who has an ERA of 2.83 . The Lions leaders in saves are Laif Hultine and Kyle Moore with three.

“Good consistent pitching from our starters… I would say that’s the key as long as we get good pitching we have a chance to win games.” Darnell said.

The Lions next home game is on April 14th against Newman at 6pm at Joe Becker Stadium in Joplin, MO.
