J-Town gets new owners

J-Town Sports Bar is one of the many sports bars in Joplin, Mo. It is located on 2502 S. Main Street.

It closed down in the fall of 2007, but reopened in May 20, 2008 after it was purchased by its new owners George and Pam Bone of Pineville, Mo.

The couple purchased the bar back in March. “We spent two months cleaning and preparing it to be reopened,” said Pam Bone.

The bar has many special events going on this month according to Pam Bone. “On Sundays and Mondays we have the Football Quarterback Throw. The person has to throw the football into one of the three holes.

The top hole has five points, the middle hole has 10 points, and the bottom hole has 15 points. Whoever has the most points by the end of the season, wins a two-week vacation in Las Vegas.” “We have the Football Quarterback Throw after each Chiefs Game,” said George Bone.

Of the pool tournaments that are held, 8-ball tournaments are held at 8 p.m. on Friday nights, and 9-ball are held at 8 p.m. on Saturday nights. The local band “Willie and the Po’ Boys” performs a Jam Session at 8p.m. on the first and third Thursday of each month, where a guest can bring their instruments to participate in the band

Valerie Pruitt, sophomore physical education, works as a waiter at J-Town. “I have worked here since it opened in May.

The place provides a good and friendly environment for people,” said Pruitt.
