Natural High Week gets new name

Natural High Week is no more.

There has been a small change in a long held campus tradition.

“Wellapalooza is the event formally known as Natural High Week,” said Natalie Bruce, mental health counselor at Advising, Counseling and Testing services. “The name change was to make it just a little more fun because Natural High Week was getting to be an old boring name so we just wanted to mix it up and have it be a little more fun.

“It’s just a big party full of wellness.”

Bruce said Wellapalooza is a week based on making healthy choices related to drug and alcohol usage and is sponsored by the Advising, Counseling and Testing services and MoSo Week Squad, the student organization dedicated to making healthy choices pertaining to drugs and alcohol.

“One thing about MoSo Week Squad is that we are never telling students not engage in certain activities,” Bruce said. “You all are adults. You can make your own choices. We’re just saying if you do, make sure you don’t harm yourself or someone else.”

According to the MoSo Week Squad polls, 88 percent of the student body has not engaged in binge drinking. The poll for the previous year showed 77 percent.

The events will be held Monday, Sept. 14 through Thursday, Sept. 17. The Friday event has been canceled due to lack of funding. Information can be picked up in the Lions’ Den.
