Students burning for comedy

Magicians, hypnotists or comedians, the Missouri Southern Campus Activities Board (CAB) has always done a great job of finding performers that meet students’ entertainment needs. One upcoming performer is Jonathan Burns with his Flexible Comedy Show coming Friday, Sept. 12, to Corley Auditorium at 7 p.m.

“I don’t know a lot about Jonathan Burns; I know a few odd facts,” said Landon Adams, director of student activities. “I know that Jonathan Burns is a comedian. I’ve picked up from his videos that he thinks himself to be extremely sexy.”

Burns has performed his flexible comedy routine at over 250 colleges and universities around the world. Campus Activities Magazine, the main publication for campus acts, named Burns best variety performer of 2014. According to his website, www.flexiblecomedy.com, Burns’ variety show includes juggling, stand-up comedy, contortion and sideshow stunts.

CAB discovered Burns at the National Association for Campus Activities conference in Nashville in the spring of 2013.

“I know how much our Campus Activity Board fell in love with him in Nashville and thought he was so funny,” said Adams. “I think there’s going to be a curiosity with him too. Even our promo materials we got for him, he’s always doing weird stuff.”

Fliers and advertisements are posted all around campus or online for future CAB events.

“Do things on campus besides going to class; don’t let yourself get stuck in that routine of driving to campus only for class,” said Adams. “Drive to campus for all this other stuff that we’ve got going on … you’re only in college one time. There’s not another time frame in your life when you’ve got all this entertainment at your fingertips available basically at no charge.”
