Student group confirms comedian, speaker

Apologies across the board were the first order of business at Monday’s Campus Activities Board meeting.

Julie Blackford, director of student activities, stated she was disappointed the proposed All American Rejects’ concert fell through.

“As scared as I am of concerts, I apologize if I didn’t seem supportive,” Blackford said.

In upcoming events, Lyndse Bergen, family events chairperson, discussed plans for Family Day With the Lions, an event where families can come out and meet Missouri Southern athletes.

The event, scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday in Young Gymnasium, will feature free temporary tattoos, pom-poms and other novelties. The athletic department is also providing CAB with tickets for the evening’s game.

“We want to help out the team,” Bergen said, “and give families an event they can take their kids to.”

Billy Burr has been confirmed as the comedian for Safe Spring Break and is scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. March 4 in the Billingsly Student Center. After confirming Burr for Safe Spring Break, Blackford showed a video featuring some of Burr’s performances.

Also confirmed for the same week is Malik from the “Real World.” Malik will be speaking on diversity and taking questions afterward. He is set to appear at 7 p.m. March 5 in Webster Hall Auditorium.

Koinonia had a representative present at the meeting asking CAB to help sponsor its yearly dance. The proposal was for $800, but no decision was made at the meeting, as some CAB members were under the impression the dance was for Koinonia members only.

The Wesley Foundation’s proposed concert remains up in the air as no representatives were present and no commitment was made by Wesley to move the event on campus.

“I put the ball in their court,” Blackford said.

Blackford again stated as long as the event was moved to an on-campus location, that she would have no problem giving Wesley the money.

The next CAB meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday in the second-floor lounge of the Billingsly Student Center.
