Various groups plan concerts at area venues

Papa Roach will be just one of five performing acts to come to cities close to Joplin.

The rock group will be performing at The Foxtown City Limits in Pittsburg, Kan. The concert was originally scheduled to be held at The Boardwalk Pub, also in Pittsburg. Christy Stevens, office manager of Chase Entertainment, the group bringing Papa Roach to perform, said the venue was changed months ago because the Pub was undergoing reconstruction of its building and did not have enough fire exits for the expected amount of people. Chase Entertainment is selling 1,000 tickets for the concert.

Stevens said the tickets are selling quickly, and she expects them to sell out. She anticipated “no problems” with the switching of venues. As of April 1, the entertainment group had 40 tickets plus there were about 200 “floating” around.

“They’re going really fast,” she said. “We usually do sell out. We usually sell a thousand for everybody.”

Stevens said the new venue is open to all ages, while she did not believe the old one was. Because this is the second time Papa Roach has performed in Pittsburg, she expects the members of the group to hang around after the show to sign autographs.

“We had them before they were famous, and now we’re having them now,” Stevens said.

There will also be “a lot” of merchandise for sale at the concert.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. They can be bought at CD Exchange, Creative Car Audio (in Pittsburg and Joplin) and The Book Barn. Persons may also call 620-231-5252 to secure tickets. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The next concert coming to the area will be Sevendust, playing what has been dubbed “The White Trash Bash,” at Remington’s in Springfield. Stevie Mix, media marketing manager for Remington’s, said they are expecting to sell between 1,200 and 1,400 tickets for the concert. The venue has a 1,600 capacity. He said the concert will be all ages, but there is a 21+ only section for those wanting to drink.

Sevendust will perform with Project 86, Finger Eleven and Ether Seeds. Mix said Project 86 is fairly new to the “national scene.”

“From what we’re hearing, this show is doing well,” he said.

The concert will be held Wed. April 9. Tickets are $17.50.

Sum 41 will also be performing later in the month at Remington’s. It will perform with No Use for a Name and Auto Pilot Off. Mix said they are expecting a good turnout for this concert as well. He said even though a variety of groups are buying tickets, “it’s mostly a young show.”

He also said he will soon be giving some tickets to KSYN 92.5 for it to give away in Joplin. Tickets for the Sum 41 concert are $20, and the concert will be held April 27.

Doors for both concerts open at 7. Tickets can be purchased at the same places for both concerts: Remington’s, Kaleidoscope, PFI and Stick It In Your Ear. However, the Remington’s box office is the only place persons can use a credit card.

Among the rock groups, one rap artist will be visiting Springfield to perform. At The Shrine Mosque, 50 Cent will put on a show with guest Clipse.

Tom Morris, administrator of the Mosque, said ticket sales have been good so far.

The Mosque has a capacity of 3,000 people, and Morris said the show is expected to sell out.

It is an all-ages show and will be the first time the rap artist has come to Springfield. 50 Cent will perform at 8 p.m. April 18. Tickets for the show are $34.50 and can be bought at Kaleidoscope, Famous Barr and the Shrine Mosque box office. Persons may also order tickets by calling 1-800-293-5949.

Less Than Jake will also be performing in Springfield Saturday at The Forum. The group will be playing with Teen Idols, Punchline and Bigwig.
