Theater opens in Webb City, rents to church

The Joplin metropolitan area has a new movie theater to choose from.

Brady Moses of Webb City opened the Route 66 Theatre April 4.

Moses has been involved in the cinema business since he was in high school.

While working several years at different theaters, Moses said he had always had the idea of owning a theater.

“It kind of got in my blood,” Moses said.

After spending two years negotiating for the building that now houses his theater, Moses bought it and restored it, sparing as much of the original artwork as possible.

“I think it is pretty unique when you can go in a building this old and still find that stuff,” Moses said.

It usually shows movies three weeks after they have been released, Moses said.

He said showing movies later is cheaper and enables the theater to charge its customers lower prices.

Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $4 for children, seniors and matinees. Matinees are held Saturdays and Sundays. Showtimes are 7 p.m. weekdays and 9 p.m. on Fridays.

Tuesday evenings, students pay $4 with their college identification.

Londa Roy, Carl Junction resident, said she likes having a movie theater close by so she doesn’t have to drive to Joplin.

Webb City resident Randy Mell said he came to the theater to see the building and a movie.

“The floor is not sticky, and it is clean,” Mell said.

He said he enjoyed the restored building and the nostalgia it offers.

Camp Joy Ministries holds church services on Sundays in the building. The ministry pays rent to use the facility.

Moses said speakers, bands and any other individuals interested can rent the facility.

He said the theater has a 24-channel equalizer that can be used by those who rent the facility.

Individuals interested in the theater’s showings or interested in renting the facility, may call 673-5300.

It is located at 24 S. Main St. in Webb City.
