Missouri Southern senior forward Elisa Bryant chases the ball in a race against Southwest Baptist University´s Brenda Boswell during the Oct. 22 game at Southern.

The Lions were defeated 0-1 by the University of Missouri-Rolla Miners Oct. 17.

“It was a pretty good game, we played hard,” said Trevor Wachsman, head women’s soccer coach.

“The effort was there for the whole 90 minutes. It was probably one of our better defensive games as far as doing what we practice.”

The game remained tied 0-0, until the last 17 minutes when the Miner’s Lauren Wilkinson scored a goal on Missouri Southern’s Kim Bossen, senior goalie.

“It was a really good effort,” Wachsman said. “We were organized defensively.”

On Oct. 22 the Lions were defeated for the second time by Southwest Baptist University.

Just a few short weeks ago Southern was beaten by the SBU Bearcats, 3-0. Oct. 22 the Lions managed to keep only a 1-point gap, losing 2-1.

“I felt like we actually put everything we have learned into practice,” said junior forward Tera Reisner.

“We played with heart. We had good communication. As a team we supported each other.”

“It was a good game for us,” Wachsman said. “We played well. We had some good chances; unfortunately they didn’t go in our favor.”

“It’s the first year under a new coach and a new system, and they will be better next year,” said fan Terry Levy, junior criminal justice administration major.

The Lion’s have another game at 6 p.m. Friday in Warrensburg against Central Missouri State University.

In September, Southern was beaten by the Jennies on their home turf, 2-0. Hope is high for a win, to motivate the Lions for the last leg of the season.

“Hopefully we can put it all together and get a win,” Reisner said.

“Everyone is playing well, but if we can get a win, it would boost the teams confidence.”

Southern plays against the University of Central Oklahoma at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Edmond.

The Lion’s next home game is Thursday against Emporia State University at 6 p.m.

The Lion’s tied the Hornets, 2-2 on Oct 10, so the parity is good for the game.

“They are all good athletes and it’s a pretty good show,” said Timothy Jackson, senior business management major. “We have fun in the crowd, standing behind them cheering and rooting for them, every team needs support.”
