Missouri Southern gives a bittersweet farewell to all nine of their women senior soccer players.

Four-year goalie Kim Bossen, is the career leader in saves with 219. Beth Cammilletti has played in 53 matches for the lions.

Stephanie Doerr has started all four years for Southern’s defense, playing in 64 games.

“Overall, what matters is team unity and spirit, and we really accomplished that this year,” Doerr said.

Jennifer Griest played 11 games this year as goalie and midfielder. Sandy Hicks has played 56 games in her five years at Southern. Melissa Husby played 64 defensive games for the Lions.

Jessie Noid, team captain, played defense for a record 71 games for the Lions. Amber Phipps saw action in 52 games as a midfielder.

“I’m really going to miss it, this town and my teammates,” Phipps said.

“I know no matter what happens in life, I can turn back and they will always be there for me. That’s the true essence of what a team is.”

With a new coach and a new style of winning, the 2003 soccer season has been one of new beginnings.

“We got a new coach and he did awesome,” Phipps said. “I’d do anything for another year of eligibility under him (head women’s soccer coach Trevor Wachsman). I truly believe next year will be a break out year for Missouri Southern.”

These nine seniors aren’t just teammates, they’ve got something more.

“There’s definitely a connection, because we’ve been through the whole coaching change,” Doerr said. “I can honestly say walking away from this I will definitely keep in touch with a lot of these girls.”
