Organization plans to make reality shows reality for students

Members of Missouri Southern’s Campus Activities Board reconvened Feb. 25 after a two-week hiatus.

Twelve students attended the hour-long meeting with discussions primarily on the topic of reality shows on campus.

Terry Levy, junior criminal justice major, headed the discussion after attending a three-day student activities conference in Cincinnati. The idea of bringing a reality show to campus was just one of many ideas Levy brought back with him.

The discussed reality shows would be a shorter, condensed version of the television shows. Ideas stemmed from “Boiling Point” to “Survivor.”

The idea is to get more students involved in campus activities.

Julie Blackford, director of student activities, said she stood behind the reality show idea.

“We could do just about anything,” Levy said.

The only reality show he was advised against was “The Real World,” due to the co-ed nature of the show.

Blackford confirmed sumo wrestling and laser tag as some of the novelties for the spring break blitz spike-night.

CAB is also planning a skate night, proposed for March 31.

A “through-time” theme would take skaters through a different decade of music each hour. Times for the event have not yet been fully determined.

Students interested in CAB are invited to attend the weekly meetings at 2 p.m., Wednesdays in the student activities office on the second floor of the Billingsly Student Center.
