THE DEBATE

This week Trey Vaughan and Mitch Carney will be debating who will win the NBA Finals this season. We both predict the Celtics and Warriors to face off in the NBA Finals this season.

This is too easy, the Celtics will definitely win the NBA championship this year. Although, the Warriors got better by adding another NBA All-Star in Demarcus Cousins to the team this year, they still have some really good competition in the West, which will make them work to make it to the championship.

The Celtics on the other hand don’t have to worry about anyone in the East besides themselves. The Celtics have returning players such as Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward back this year and barring any major injury behind the Warriors they are definitely the most talented team in the NBA especially with the rise of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. The Celtics’ bench is also one of the deepest if not the deepest in the NBA with Terry Rozier, Marcus Smart, and Marcus Morris.

Also, the Celtics have the best coach in the NBA this year in Brad Stevens, who will coach circles around Steve Kerr. This Celtics team with the amount of talent all the way through the roster and with how weak the East is, the Celtics will win it all this year.

The Warriors will make it competitive because they are one of the best teams in the NBA to ever play, but the Celtics just have a deeper roster, and an easier road to travel, and the better coach. The Warriors may have a better starting five, but the Celtics starters are right behind them and with the better bench you have to go with the Celtics. This will be the beginning of the Celtics new NBA dynasty where they will rule the NBA much like the Warriors have done the past couple of years.

Celtics win in six over the Warriors.

Mitch is biased. I say that with the utmost respect for the man. But he’s biased. The guy is a Celtics fan and he is just excited for the best team he has seen since the Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, and Rajon Rondo days. The Celtics might be the most dangerous team in the NBA this year. They will be scary good.

Kyrie returns, Gordon Hayward returns, and they will be such a boost coming back from injury. Hayward provides the Celtics with a good, reliable shooter. Something they lacked last year for the most part. Jayson Tatum might be the next big thing in the NBA and will have an even better season than the did last year. The young Jaylen Brown will be another big time player whether he comes off the bench or starts. Al Horford is a very reliable big man. He can shoot, he has a great IQ, he passes well, and is a good veteran leader. Horford is one of the more underrated big men in the league. My Raptors will be their only threat in the East. But Celtics escape in 7.

With all of that being said, the Warriors are still the Warriors. They are actually better than last years Warriors. The addition of Boogie Cousins could mean an unstoppable team in the West. I like the Lakers, and Lebron James, but I don’t think Lebron can do enough with that supporting cast to make it out of the West. Sure, I could see Lebron taking them to the WCF, but not beating a dominant Golden State team in 7. The Warriors are just too good.

The Celtics won’t last against the dominant Warriors team. Warriors in 6.
