Golf No. 4 in MIAA

Southern entered the MIAA tournament in Blue Springs, Mo. in fourth place with 17 MIAA points, 9 points behind first place Washburn.

The conference took place on April 18-19. The two-day, 54-hole tournament had players playing 27 holes per day.

MSSU seniors Danny Sinksen and Travis Stockholm both finished tied in seventh place, carding a 227 to lead the Lions. Senior Geir Askvik and freshman Ben Perry shot a total 236. Senior Andrew Koehler posted a 247.

The 915 total put the Lions fourth overall in the tournament, giving them a total of 25 points in the MIAA standings for the season.Washburn took the tournament with an 866, giving them a perfect season in the MIAA point totals.

Sinksen’s tee 7 finish gave him enough points to be elected into the All MIAA golf team for the third time in his four-year college golf career. Sinksen was also named MIAA golf athlete of the week after leading the Lions to their first victory of the season last week during the Central Regional Invitational.

The Lions will finish their season with the Central/Great Lakes Super Regional on May 2-4 in St. Joseph.

It will be followed by the NCAA Division II Championships on May 17-20 in Savannah, Ga.
