Men’s soccer beats RU 1-0, loses to UMR

Winning one and dropping another, the Missouri Southern men’s soccer team competed twice last week.

The Lions traveled to Kansas City to play Rockhurst University Sept. 3. Southern won the match 1-0. Evan Keeling, sophomore forward, scored the lone goal off a penalty kick in the 67th minute. It was his second game-winning goal of the season.

Senior midfielder/forward J.P West had two shots with one on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Travis Haight earned 6 saves.

The Lions traveled to Rolla to take on the University of Missouri-Rolla Miners Sept. 4. The Miners defeated the Lions 3-0. The goals came in the third, 33rd and 72nd minutes of the game.

Haight earned five saves. West had four shots with one on frame.

Neil Stoessel, sophomore midfielder/forward, and Keeling both had two shots and one on frame.

The Lions’ next game is Friday against St Edwards University at home. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

The Lions are back at home Sunday when they will take the Midwestern (Texas) State University Indians. That game will start at 3 p.m.
