Follow the money

We love what you’re doing, just not how you’re doing it.

Next week, Darrell Sour, senior political science major, will bring a resolution to the Student Senate proposing rollover of Senate funds that go unused. Saving this money would allow them to sponsor bigger projects and make student use of student dollars.

Kudos, Senate.

Making sure students keep their money is a simple, but excellent idea. However, the Senate’s ability to allocate funds to itself has us a little concerned. Because of legislation passed earlier this year, senators no longer must abstain from voting for allocations to groups to which they belong effectively allowing Senate to cash its own checks. We’re not expecting the Senate to allocate a night on the town anytime soon, but it’s a slipperly slope when you’re both the bank and the banker.
