No go for Gitmo

Rep. Clint Tracy (R-Cape Girardeau) is jumping the gun.

Though there has been no mention of bringing Guantanamo Bay detainees to or through Missouri, Tracy is so determined to keep former Gitmo prisoners out of the Sunshine State that he sponsored legislation against it.

House Concurrent Resolution 16 urges the government to “reject any asylum, containment, transport, imprisonment, or state medical care of any suspected terrorists released from United States-operated foreign prisons.”

Kansas has a slightly greater chance of playing host to former Gitmo residents with Fort Leavenworth just west of Kansas City, and the Kansas legislature passed similar legislation.

But Missouri hasn’t even been mentioned as a destination for former detainees.

Nevertheless, Tracy came out shooting, saying “we’re just saying we don’t want terrorists in Missouri,” and pushing through the resolution, 126-29.

What’s next? Missouri’s own version of the Border War?
