Gina Branch and her daughter; Junie Branch received the top fundraiser award for raising $1; 001; from Karl Schmidt regional director of the American Heart Association; she said.

This year’s annual Wellapalooza Week was held  from Sept. 23 – Sept. 28, ending with the 4 States Heart Walk.

Heather Arnold wellness director, said she hoped to bring awareness to aspects of wellness that people often do not realize as wellness issues.

“The purpose of Wellapalooza is to educate everyone on the idea of wellness and some of the things we might not think about as far as wellness is concerned,” Arnold said.

A beer goggle obstacle course as well as  free popcorn and snow cones with social norming messages on the cups started off the week.

The Second Annual Wellness Screening opened to students and public on Sept. 24.

The well woman checkups are the only screening that is not free, though a coupon to waive the office visit was offered.

Wellness Wednesday was held at its usual time and consisted of make and take first aid kits in the Lion’s Den.

Finishing off the Wellapalooza Week was the second annual 4 States Heart Walk held in Leggett and Platt on Sept. 28. The annual event raised money for heart disease.

Last year’s winning team, from Missouri Southern, raised $14,086.

The team was led by repository therapy professor Glenda Pippin. Pippin attributed her team’s victory to the help they received from the Southern’s radiology department.

“Radiology and respiratory teamed up and that is what secured us the traveling trophy,” she  said.
