Volleyball team defeats Drury in 3-0 victory

From Staff Reports

Fans of Drury University found out the lions don’t need a home court advantage to win.

The Lions volleyball team bumped, set and spiked their way to a 3-0 victory at Drury on Tuesday.

“It felt awesome,” said Ashley Mehrer, sophomore middle hitter. “We were so in sync. Everyone played great.”

Mehrer had 10 kills, following senior Jackie Gallagher, who had 19. Sophomore Katie Patterson and senior Sara Jaynes had 7 and 6 respectively. The Lions ended the night with 51 kills.

Gallagher also led the team in attacks with 35 and had only 2 errors, leaving her with a .486 hitting percentage.

As a team, the Lions offense had 123 attacks and 51 kills totaling a .325 hitting percentage while keeping Drury to 27 kills and errors for a .000.

“I think we’re going to dominate because we play to our level,” Mehrer said. “We have a team of great players.”

The Lions will go into next week with a 3-2 record. On Saturday, the team will travel to Lawton, Okla. for the two-day Cameron University Classic.
