Women’s team takes win, men take loss

Both the women’s and men’s soccer teams were in action this week.

On Oct. 10, the women hosted the University of Missouri-Rolla Miners. The Lions won the game, 1-0.

The only goal of the game was scored in the fourth minute of the game by Sarah Sneed, senior midfielder, with the assist by Erin Gfeller, freshman midfielder.

Trevor Wachsman, women’s head coach, said freshman goalkeeper Alese Woolard recorded her first career shutout.

The women improve to 7-5-1 and 5-2-1 in the MIAA.

The men also played Oct. 10 against Drury University in Springfield. They lost the game 2-0, with both goals against them coming in the first half.

The men traveled to Tahlequah, Okla. Oct. 12 to play Northeastern State University. The Lions fell again, 4-1.

The Lion’s only goal was scored in the 82nd minute by J.P. West, junior midfielder, with the assist by Patrick Hill, junior midfielder.

Their record stands at 1-10-2 and 0-7-1 in the Southwest Soccer Conference.

The next game for the women was on Oct. 14 against Southwest Baptist. The game had not been played at the time of publishing.

The men play Friday at the University of Incarnate Word and Saturday at St. Mary’s University.
