Lions win final home matches

With the swing of the racket, Missouri Southern’s women’s tennis team defeated Southwest Baptist University on April 13 with a 5-4 victory.

This past Wednesday capped off the team’s 2004-05 home schedule.

The Lady Bearcats won two double matches, which gave them a 2-1 lead over the Lions, as they entered singles play. However, Barb Gombosi, sophomore, defeated SBU’s Charlotte Heidelberg in both of her matches, as did Michelle Hall, freshman, against Chelsey Janzen, Lacey McMunn, senior, against Valerie Jones and Ashton Lawrence, freshman, against Stephanie Janzekovich.

The win takes the Lion’s record to 6-6 overall and a 3-3 conference record.

On April 9, the Lions took two out of three wins in the double matches against Washburn State University. However, they were defeated 5-4.

For the season, Gombosi has a record of 11 wins and five losses in singles. In doubles, Gombosi and Hall have a record of 13-4.

On Friday through Sunday, the team will travel to Edmond, Okla. for the Central Oklahoma Broncho Tournament.
