Golf concludes MIAA season

Finishing fourth in the MIAA Conference Championship, the Missouri Southern golf team also ended up No. 4 in the MIAA’s final standings.
The 54-hole championship was held April 17-18 in Blue Springs, Mo. Missouri Western State University won the tournament with a score of 875. The Lions shot a combined 913.
Individually, Southern’s top finisher was Eric Byers, junior, who ended up in fifth place with a score of 221. He was behind two Washburn University golfers who tied for third place.
Tommy Clifford, junior, finished 16th. He shot a 228 at the tournament.
Finishing fifth of 13 teams, the golf team also competed in the Ironhorse Classic, April 10-11 in Leawood, Kan.
Southern finished 31 strokes behind the leader, Indian Hills Community College, who shot 590 in the tournament.
Byers led the Lions there as well. He shot a 151, seven above par, putting him in a tie for 11th place.
Clifford was next, finishing tied for 14th after shooting 152.
Tyler Goecker, junior, finished tied for 24th. He shot a 157 in the tournament.
Although the conference standings are set, the Lions have one more tournament in their schedule. They will compete in the Central/Great Lakes Super Regional May 1-3 in Joliet, Ill.
