Why open the door

Transparency doesn’t matter if no one is there to look.

In the past semester the Joplin Globe, has made a point to watch the meetings of Missouri Southern’s Board of Governors with a magnifying glass. One article even pointed out that the Board may have been breaking the law. We commend the Globe for their efforts. One of the primary jobs of the media is to play ‘watch dog’ and the Globes Joe Hadsall has done an excellent job so far, which is why we at The Chart were surprised to be sitting alone at Tuesdays meeting of the presidential selection committee. Granted, the open portion of said meeting lasted approximately 3 minutes, long enough for the group to come to order, approve last weeks minutes and move to closed session. Perhaps the Globe had made other arrangement to cover the meeting, but for them to raise such a stink about open meetings and records laws, they should at least be there to take a whiff.
