Easily the MIAA upset of the millennium.Emporia State has knocked the number one seeded Southwest Baptist Bearcats out of the MIAA Tournament in the first round with an 83-79 victory.The Hornets, NOT the Bearcats, will await the winner of MSSU vs. Fort Hays State in the 4 v. 5 game.Emporia was led by a game high 24 points and seven assists from DeAndre Townsend. Matt Rogers had 21 points and six boards in a losing effort for SBU. This win for Emporia marks only the second time that a number eight seed has upset a number one seed in the MIAA tournament. The first time was in 1996 when Pittsburg State accomplished the feat before being eliminated in the semi-finals.SBU’s regular season ends with a record of 21-7.
