Pro Musica bringing concert to Southern

Pro Musica of Joplin presents the State Symphony Orchestra of Mexico. The orchestra will visit the Missouri Southern campus on March 9.

The State Symphony Orchestra of Mexico was founded in 1971. The orchestra made its first tour to the United States in 1979, to Europe in 2000 and to China in 2005. The concert is set for 3 p.m. in Taylor Auditorium.

Enrique Batiz will lead the orchestra. He is the music director and chief conductor, the founder of the orchestra and a famous orchestral conductor in Latin America.

The orchestra will perform music by Manuel De Falla, Joaquin Rodrigo, Carlos Chavez and Johannes Brahms.

Tickets range from $10 to $20, with a $3 discount on each ticket for students and seniors ages 62 and up. Special “patron” tickets will be available for $60, including premium seating, name listing in the program and a buffet following the concert.
