Connor McGregor; Can he Deliver?

UFC featherweight champion Connor McGregor, 19-2, defeated Jose Aldo on December 12, 2015 wih a KO victory 13 seconds into the first round. McGregor, the 27 year old Dublin native, has won 15 straight fights and is ranked No. 3 in the official UFC pound-for-pound rankings.

Connor McGregor has not only become “notorious” for his numerous victories in the world of mixed martial arts (MMA), but he has become the king of what some refer to as “mental warfare.” Translation? The guy knows how to trash talk.

On March 5, McGregor will face current Lightweight Champion Rafael Dos Anjos in hopes of becoming the first UFC dual champion. If he defeats Dos Anjos, he will be the champion of both the featherweight and lightweight title of the UFC.

On Jan. 20, the UFC held its first UFC 197 press conference and McGregor did not hold back.

The lightweight challenger not only continuously insulted the champion’s loyalty to his home country, calling him a traitor, but he predicted to defeat the champion in under one minute, referring to him as a “bum version of Aldo.”

On top of his prediction, McGregor promised the Brazilian people, “I will behead Rafael Dos Anjos, I will drag his head through the streets of Rio de Janeiro.”

So is McGregor going to deliver? While he certainly does not lack confidence, does he lack the skills to make good on his promises? I personally believe we will have our first UFC dual champion on March 5. Not only did McGregor defeat his last opponent in record-breaking time, he won his fight exactly the way he predicted he would beforehand.

Short of an actual beheading, I believe McGregor will walk out of the cage making history.
