Time between semesters not empty

In the two weeks between the spring and summer semesters lies May intersession.

“Intersession is basically set up to give you something you wouldn’t usually get a course in during the fall or spring semester,” said Ward Bryant, teacher of Documentary: History and Production.

“This course is here to just give you different views,” he said. ” Documentaries are a field that have grown in popularity.

“If you look now, there are entire cable channels devoted to them.”

Bryant said there would be a variety of documentaries, including Harvest of Shame, Berlin: Symphony of a Great City and other works.

Kyle Tucker, English instructor, will be teaching Movie Narrative.

“This is the third year we’ve had the class,” Tucker said. “The class is designed to approach the films as literature.

“When most people watch a film they just let it wash over. People should think about what they are looking at.”

Tucker said he enjoys the brevity of the Intersession courses most.

“Intersession is nice in the sense that it is compact,” he said. “The whole class is over with in 10 days, and the two weeks goes by very quickly–Too quickly if you ask me. That’s the nice thing about Intersession though, it’s intense and yet it’s casual at the same time.”

Some of the films to be shown include Trainspotting, A Clockwork Orange and The Nasy Girl.

Dr. Michael Howarth will be teaching Alfred Hitchcock as Auteur.

“I chose to focus an intersession class on Alfred Hitchcock because I thought that after a long semester, students would find it fun and interesting to explore the topic of film and study of films,” he said.

“I believe that intersession classes are a great way for students to learn about topics that they might not otherwise be able to explore during regular semesters.”

Films shown will be Psycho, Rear Window, and North By Northwest.

Intersession courses are worth one or two credit hours and last three hours a day. Students who participate will receive Monday, May 25 off for Memorial Day as well. Saturday, May 30 will be the final at regularly scheduled class time.
