Bieber brings the bops after hiatus
Changes, Justin Bieber’s fifth studio album, and comeback album after a five-year hiatus, deals with drugs, depression, and getting married. The album released at midnight embodies love, pain, and prosperity.
“Picture perfect you don’t need no filter, gorgeous make ‘em drop dead you a killer.”
Bieber continues to sing about his adoration for wife, Hailey Bieber, formerly known as Hailey Baldwin in his third single released off the long anticipated track, “Intentions,” featuring Migos of the rap trio, Migos performed on Saturday Night Live on Feb. 8.
While we love to hear Bieber in love we’re still wondering where his rhythmic dance moves moved to exactly.
Bieber’s last record Purpose released Nov. 13, 2015 debuted at number one on the Billboard Top 200 Charts and was the fourth best-selling album of 2015.
Ahead of his album release, Bieber announced tour dates on the Ellen DeGeneres’s Show.
Tour dates were set to kick off on Mar. 9, 2016 in Seattle, Washington and span to Oct. 7, 2017 in Singapore, Hong Kong. However, due to unforeseen circumstances the remaining shows following the July 2, 2017 show in London, England were cancelled.
162 shows, six countries, in the span of 19 months. I frequently hear my co-workers bitching about working a six-day work week. I firmly believe that my mental health would also be diminished had I toured 16 months accounting for 151 shows.
Scooter Braun, Bieber’s longtime manager, took to Instagram following the cancellation of the tour apologizing on his behalf.
Making it no surprise that Bieber more recently confessed to taking time away from music as a way to grow and deal with his mental health.
“I’ve toured my whole teenage life and early 20s, I realized as you guys probably saw I was unhappy last tour and I don’t deserve that and you don’t deserve that,” said Bieber in a post on Instagram.
Since Bieber’s rather quiet hiatus away from music, rather than throwing eggs at his neighbors’ houses and taking Instagram worthy mug shots, Bieber got married and grew a mustache that we’re still unsure about. ‘Hey, Biebs, I must-ask-you-a-question.’
In Vogue, March 2019 Mr. and Mrs. Bieber grace the cover.
In the cover story, written by Rob Haskill, the Biebers explore their years off the radar, struggles of being newly-weds, and trusting again after being broken. Although, if the Drew House slippers and the smile on Bieber’s face mean anything, I’d say married life is treating Bieber nicely.
With no signs of heartbreak on the album, Bieber dives into the struggles of giving up and fighting even when feelings of discouragement set in on the title track, “Changes.”
The acoustic track visits the hardships of being in the limelight, donning the lyrics, “Sometimes I smile like its all good even though there’s pain underneath it.”
I can’t help but relate the album title back to the track, “Change Me” on Bieber’s underrated 2013 album Journals, which indeed made my take a first class seat on the Bieber-train. The track, “Change Me,” features Bieber relentlessly begging for a love interest to change him in his ways of affection.
I continue to wonder who exactly his anonymous love interest is and if there is any correlation between 2013 Bieber asking for someone to change him, and 2020 Bieber releasing an album titled Changes. Looks to me like Bieber and Bille Ellish got everything they wanted.
In light of releasing Changes, Bieber released a docuseries on YouTube titled, “Seasons,” giving fans a look into his life, his struggles, and what’s to come from the new album. The in-depth look into how Bieber created his music featuring appearances from record producer and longtime collaborator, Poo Bear, who previously produced Bieber’s chart topping hit, “Despacito.”
The album which is heavily influenced by his wife, Hailey Bieber, is an emotional work that transports us back into Justin’s time of healing after heartbreak, ultimately bringing us back to a place of happiness.
Although, we still have questions as to exactly which rodent crawled up for a nap in Bieber’s cupid’s bow. How does Hailey manage the smell of his upper lip?
We can’t deny the fact Bieber still manages to make us melt with his rhythmic riffs, R&B bops and charismatic lyrics, making us all resent Mrs. Bieber who reigns as Justin’s muse in reference to his fifth studio album, Changes, out today.
