Women’s CC team prepare for D-1 OSU Jamboree
With a big meet on the horizon, the Missouri Southern Lions are gearing up for what they hope will be a successful road meet in Oklahoma tomorrow.
At last Wednesday’s dual with PSU, the Lions had runners place first, third and seventh.
Head Coach Patty Vavra and her team turn their attention to what may be the biggest meet before conference, the Oklahoma State University Jamboree.
“It’s time for our runners to get thrown into the fire a little bit. This course will be a challenging, hilly course to try and navigate through,” Vavra said.
“It will be extremely essential to get the team to run tightly together and close the gap from the other competitors.”
She also mentioned that this meet will test her veterans.
One of the leaders on the team, junior Marlee Tegenkamp, will look to run a strong race, allowing teammates to follow her and fellow Lions standout Rachel Schrader.
Tegenkamp’s strong start to the season was rewarded this week as she was named MIAA Female Cross Country Runner of the week.
“This upcoming meet lands on a pivotal time for the team, this will ultimately be a stepping stone for the team heading down the stretch,” Vavra said.
“Every meet is a test for us to get to where we want to be at the end of the season,” Vavra said.
