Track teams prepping for MIAA title meet
The Missouri Southern men’s and women’s track and field teams recently competed in the Tyson Invitational, an elite, nationally televised meet held at the University of Arkansas.
John Lowe placed seventh in the pole vault with provisional height of 15-7.75.
Jumper Clark Tanksley earned a provisional in the high jump and earned himself third place at a height of 6-9.
Sophomore distance runner Rachel Schrader competed in the mile, earning a time of 5:01.05 and placing fifth with only four Division-I athletes ahead of her.
Throwers Dustin Green and Seth Hackney both earned provisional scores, placing fourth and fifth in shot put.
Women’s throwers Nicole Green and Kylie Cornman placed 12 and 19 in the shot put.
Green and Cornman also placed 21 and 22 in the weight throw.
Sprinter Jasmine Hughes placed 43 in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25:14.
Jumper Lisa Vengels was sixth in the high jump earning a height of 5-6. While distance runner Marlee Tegenkamp, placed sixth in the 5k with a time of 17:41.65.
The men’s track team also sent a few distance runners to Iowa State, where Andrew Webster placed 22 in the mile, while Alex Mason and Colton Wooldridge placed 36 and 38. Wooldridge, Mason and Webster also placed 14, 15 and 17 in the 3k.
Distance runners Eric Schott, a freshman and Jake Benton placed 13 and 29 in the 5k.
The Lions will end the regular season with a final meet this weekend at the University of Central Missouri before the MIAA Championship meet from Feb. 24-26.
