Letter to the Editor: Former Chart editor, adviser adresses governor

This is directed at Mr. Richard Walter of the Missouri Southern State University Board of Governors.

At the Feb. 15 Board of Governors meeting, Mr. Walter grilled Dr. Linda Hand about student outcomes.
I am all about student outcomes.

I have students working around the country in journalism. Student editors under my advisement have been awarded national recognition for their reporting and their editorial writing. I can give examples.

When I took my current position at Missouri Western, I supplied references from students and parents to show I was student-first.

I work for students and not the other way around. The best part of my life is helping young people.

And if you don’t believe me, ask some parents. I have references. Heck, let’s have a chat.

So when you question the perspective of Dr. Linda Hand, I think you are out of touch. Dr. Hand busts her ass for students. Not all faculty do, most do, but she does.

And to approach her position from a position of doubt rather than credit shows a flaw on your part.

I have spent the last six years putting students first.

If you don’t believe me, I will parade them before you and have their parents testify as well.

Students are my life.

And you fired me.

And now you question your own Faculty Senate president.

Who puts students first, sir?

Who?
