Student Activities Director steps down, leaving vacancy
Malorie Cashel has resigned from her position at Southern as director of student activities. The position is now vacant and responsibilities have fallen onto Craig Gullett, Coordinator of Student Activities.
“When I first got the news that she was leaving I was a little nervous,” Gullett said.
“But then once I got a look at the calendar I realized that the year is almost over and soon enough things will be slowing down.”
Gullett’s main job at Southern before the changes consisted mostly of advising the Campus Activities Board. He is now responsible for not only Campus Activities Board, but Greek Life, Student Senate and Registered Student Organizations (RSO’s).
“Student Senate has pretty much been taken care of by other advisers,” Gullett said.
“Sam Quackenbush and Ron Mitchell have really taken the reins for them.”
Gullett said there will not be any significant changes due to the staff change. Student activities are looking forward to upcoming events.
“The spring picnic is coming up on April 26th,” Gullett said. “That’s always a fun event for students. We are planning to have food, t-shirts, a roaming magician, balloon artists and a bungee run.”
“Unfortunately, a lot of scheduling has been conflicted due to weather but arrangements have been made and problems have not arisen.”
Gullett said he will be applying for the available position of director of student activities.
Until the position is filled, both positions will be his responsibility.
