Weekend sports breakdown
Softball
Softball hosted a double header at the Pat Lipira Complex on April 9 against Northeastern State winning 4-3 in the first game. Due to weather, the second game against Northeastern State ended at the beginning of the sixth inning with a tied game 3-3.
The softball team returned to the field April 10 to compete against Rogers State in another double header. Southern won the first game 5-2 and lost the second game 7-1.
Baseball
Southern’s baseball hosted Newman in a series opener on April 9. Southern won 8-1 in the first game against the Newman Jets.
Southern went back up to bat against the Jets on April 10 in a double header. In the first game of the day, Southern scored 5-2 against the Jets.
During the second game Southern really came out to play. Southern was out on top early with three home runs in the first inning, followed by three more in the second. Southern went on to score two home runs in the fourth inning and five more in the fifth keeping points up against Newman.
The game changed in the sixth inning when Southern scored 16 home runs against Newman. Southern went out to pitch another inning for Newman who got three home runs before getting three outs.
The game ended in the seventh inning with Southern winning 29-11.
Soccer
The women’s soccer team competed against the Newman Jets as well on April 9 winning 3-0.
On April 11 the team played against Central Oklahoma and lost 3-0. Their next game will be at home against Northeastern State.
Volleyball
Women’s volleyball had their last two games of the regular season on April 9 and 10.
The volleyball team played at home against Emporia State on April 9 winning 3-0. On April 10 the team traveled to Central Missouri where they lost 3-0 in their last game of the regular season.
The team will play in the postseason tournament on April 16 in Topeka, Kan.
