Country singer Jake Gill to visit Southern
This Thursday, Oct. 24, country singer Jake Gill will be performing an acoustic set in the Lion’s Den from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Gill is currently touring the Midwest and is making a special stop at Missouri Southern along the way. Director of Student Activities Landon Adams said that it’s sort of a coincidence that Southern was able to have Gill come to perform.
“Normally he’s a performance who we wouldn’t have been able to fit in the budget, but since his routing took him right through Joplin, it made sense for both sides,” he said.
In addition to good timing, Adams said that student enrollment is up 3.7% this semester increasing the budget Student Activities has to work with.
Jake Gill’s performance will be distinctive from other concerts Southern has had in the past.
“We decided to do something a little different where he’s basically setting up an acoustic set in the Lion’s Den during lunch, and it’ll be more like if you go to a restaurant and there’s a live band,” said Adams.
Jake Gill a rising country star and opening act for Jason Aldean. He’s won a number of musical contests including first place in the 2013 NSAI Nashville Songwriters Contest. His music can be heard on radio stations in Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Nebraska.
