Coach Daryl Daye staying at Southern
It is now official that Daryl Daye, head football coach at Missouri Southern, will stay on as a Lion.
Earlier in the week, Daye was interviewed for the vacant special teams coach position at DI Louisiana State. Daye was one of the three final candidates for the position, as reported by KSNF-TV.
Daye has roots deeply tied to the program at LSU. Not only is he from Louisiana, but his father played on a national title-winning team at the school in the 1950s. Daye followed in his father’s footsteps, playing inside linebacker for the Tigers.
Daye was part of many successful teams while at LSU. From 1983-89, he played or coached in five bowl games, including two Sugar Bowl appearances and one Orange Bowl.
During his two years at Southern, Daye has led the Lions to 6-5 and 7-3 seasons to go along with a victory over rival Pittsburg State, a set of feats not seen by the Southern football community in over 20 years.
