New school record set at Lion Invite
As the first day of the MSSU Lion Invite came to a close Saturday, Jan. 31, one Lion in particular finished extremely well inside the Leggett and Platt Athletic Center.
Junior sprinter Jeff Fraley not only qualified for nationals in the 200m event, but also broke the school record in the process. Fraley broke the indoor record with a time of 21.63, which matches what he ran in the prelims of last years Division II Championships. That time would later be converted to a higher time on a flat surface, because the original time was on a banked surface. Fraley’s historic mark is now the top mark in Division II so far this season.
Fraley’s impressive performance was not over after breaking a school record. He also qualified first for the 60m dash finals with a time of 6.77. The sprinter now sits as the third best is Division II, with a time .01 better than his last provisional mark in this event.
Today was the final day for the Lion Invite, which will be reviewed in next week’s paper.
