As the spring semester begins at MSSU, students, faculty and staff can look forward to a wide range of exciting events this February. For those seeking a relaxing time through music, a variety of concerts are scheduled throughout the month. On February 2 at 3:00 p.m., the Southern Symphony Orchestra Spring Concert will provide a peaceful evening of orchestral music. If you’re unable to attend, then don’t miss the MSSU Concert Band Winter Concert on Thursday, February 10, showcasing another evening of live music from the MSSU band.
For movie lovers, the Cornell Auditorium will show a variety of international films throughout the month, presenting films from Britain, France, and Australia. On February 4 at 7:00 p.m., the International Film Festival will present The Third Man (British). This film is set in post-World War II Vienna and shows a writer investigating the death of his friend. Although students prefer a more comedic, romantic film, Amélie (French) will be shown on February 11 at 7:00 p.m., which displays the story of a waitress who is committed to helping others around her find love and happiness. Lastly, The Castle (Australian) – International Film Festival will showcase a comedy-drama about a Melbourne family living next to an airport. When they are forced to move, the family decides to take a stand and fight for their house, creating a funny movie that you don’t want to miss.
Additionally, February has a variety of events that provide students with opportunities to advance their professional careers. On February 12, the Mock Interview Day will take place in Billingsly Student Center, Room 356. This event allows students to practice their interview skills and get valuable feedback from talent acquisition specialists and human resource professionals within a real life setting. These experts can provide valuable knowledge and feedback in order to help students prepare for future job opportunities and interviews. For those pursuing careers in education, the Education Career Fair on February 19 in the Billingsly Student Center Ballroom and Room 307 is an excellent opportunity. Students can explore graduate programs and P-12 teaching positions, making valuable connections with professionals in the education field. The Education Career Fair allows professionals to provide guidance to students and build the next steps towards students’ futures. Lastly, on February 26 at 9 a.m., the “Dress to Impress: Professional Clothing Giveaway” will be held in Billingsly Student Center Ballroom. This event gives students, especially graduating seniors, the chance to pick up professional clothing, including suits, dresses, blazers, shoes, and more. There is no limit to the amount of clothing an individual takes, and it’s a fantastic opportunity to prepare for the next step in students’ professional careers.
Lastly, the MSSU Cragin Art Gallery is hosting an exhibition by artist John Hendrix called “Drawing is Magic, John Hendrix.” This exhibition will be hosted from February 24, 2025, through March 26, 2025, and features award-winning illustrator John Hendrix’s art. The art gallery is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, providing students the opportunity to visit Hendrix’s beautiful illustrations.
