As fall rapidly approaches, so does one of the most anticipated events at MSSU: Homecoming! Homecoming is a time where anyone can get into the MOSO spirit. Whether you’re a student at the school, an alumni coming to visit, or an excited parent, there are many events you can attend and participate in this year. The theme this year is “Wrangle Up The Pride”, and the Homecoming events, parade, and football game will reflect this. If you’re getting involved in HOCO, make sure to follow the theme to boost up the school spirit! We are so excited for Homecoming week, and hope you are too! Let’s take a look at what the rest of the week holds.
Defend The Den
Are you looking to earn some extra points towards your Registered Student Organization’s Homecoming candidates? Participating in Defend the Den can get you 10 extra points! All you have to do is defend the campus by having a table in Billingsly Student Center outside of the Lion’s Den during HOCO week! Furthermore, your participation gives you the chance to have one of the best marketing spots for Homecoming. Make sure your organization signs up for a 1 hour spot by emailing Kaylea Furgerson at [email protected]. Spots are given on a first-come first serve basis.
Homecoming Parade
MSSU’s Homecoming parade is one of the most exciting events of the week. Organizations have the chance to make floats and display them in Downtown Joplin in a day filled with pride! This year’s parade will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 5th. MSSU students, alumni, families, and residents of Joplin attend the parade each year to participate in the parade and cheer on the sidelines. Furthermore, huge cash prizes are given out as prizes for the best floats, with $1000 for first place, $500 for second, and $250 for third!
Homecoming Football Game
A longstanding tradition as part of the homecoming week, the football game is a great opportunity to join the pride and support the MSSU Lions football team. The game is on Saturday, October 5th at 2 p.m., and MSSU will be up against the University of Central Oklahoma in a thrilling match at the Fred G. Hughes stadium! Make sure to come out to the homecoming football game and represent!
