As the Missouri Southern State University 2024-2025 school year begins, you might be experiencing many feelings: excitement about starting a new beginning, nervousness that comes with having to find new friends, or readiness for all of the awesome opportunities at MSSU and in Joplin might be some of the emotions you’re having. Lucky for you, MSSU has a plethora of clubs and associations which might make the college transition easier and more fun! Through these clubs, you can find people with the same interests as you and do the things you’ve always enjoyed. This article puts a few clubs in the spotlight so you can learn more about them. To find out more about different clubs and ask questions, make sure to go to Campus Involvement Day on Thursday, August 22, from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
MSSU Campus Activity Board (CAB)
If you enjoy event-planning and getting involved with the MSSU school spirit, MSSU’s CAB might be just the fit for you. The club offers an opportunity to come together with a team of people and discuss new and unique school wide events. The club is also responsible for events during MSSU’s homecoming, back to school week, and the MSSU themed Third Thursday. Some cool events CAB has hosted in the past are neon mini golf, talent show, glow foam party, and hosting music performances by Jesse McCartney and the Plain White T’s. Visit the CAB booth during Campus Craze or Campus Involvement Day to learn more about the club and how to join!
MSSU Women in Science (WIS)
If you’re a science major at MSSU passionate about seeing more females in STEM fields or looking for a community of women who are also pursuing careers in science, you should look into MSSU’s WIS club! The club offers many volunteering opportunities and fun events for students. In the past, students have had the opportunity to volunteer during blood drives and attend joint MSSU and KCU-COM events! Make sure to visit their booth to see how you can get involved!
MSSU Bordertown
Writing is a great way to destress from school for many, and thankfully, MSSU has a club dedicated to accepting submissions of creative writing and publishing many of them in an annual magazine issue! Students should look into Bordertown if they are interested in creative writing and would like to submit some of their creative literary pieces or if they are interested in reviewing and/or editing the work of other students who submit pieces!
While these are just a few clubs MSSU has to offer, the school has something for everyone. Whether you are looking to participate in any of these clubs or wish to expand your horizons and find other cool opportunities, make sure to attend Campus Involvement Day to get a bigger scope of what the school has in store for you!
