Choral group to perform holiday show at St. Peters cathedral

The Missouri Southern choral group will perform at St. Peter’s church on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9-10, 2016 at 7:30 p.m.

The Choral/Vocal Division of the Department of Music in conjunction with St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church presents the seventh annual performance of A Seasonal Choral Flourish. This concert will take place Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Peter’s, located at 8th and Pearl Street in Joplin.

Faculty Senate President and Choir Conductor David L. Sharlow said, “I started this back when I came here in 2010 and it was a way of getting our choral ensembles out to the community.”

A Seasonal Choral Flourish has grown from one concert to two. It will now feature the Missouri Southern Chamber Singers, Jazz Unlimited, and Concert Chorale conducted by Sharlow, with pre-concert music from the Missouri Southern Trumpet Ensemble and Brass Quintet conducted by Freddie Green at 7 p.m.

“It’s really a great way to sort of begin the holiday season,” said Sharlow.

A Seasonal Choral Flourish will have music for everyone. There will be holiday favorites and carol singing so the audience can participate, and some of the faculty will join in as well.

“It’s an exciting concert with lots of movement and energy,” said Sharlow.

Admission is free, but be there early because it fills up fast. For more information, contact the Music Department.
