Tennis faults in match
The Lady Lions tennis team fought tough competition at a tournament on April 4-5 only to fall twice but came back in the end.
The team was first toppled by the host of the tournament, Northeastern Oklahoma State University (5-0). Defeated were Sheryl Posch (6-2, 6-2) and Amy Stredney (6-0, 6-1) in singles.
Defeated in doubles were Posch and Lacey McMunn (8-1), Kim McMunn and Stredney (8-2), and Halee Phillips and Christina Broyles (8-1).
“We had tough competition,” said Jane Posch, head tennis coach. “It was good experience for our kids.”
Next, Northwest Missouri State University toppled Southern (5-0). Phillips (6-2, 6-1) and Broyles (6-0, 6-0) were the only single players who participated against Northwest. The doubles were Sheryl Posch and Lacey McMunn (9-8, 3), Kim McMunn and Stredney (8-2), Phillips and Broyles (8-0).
The Lady Lions ended up playing Southwest Baptist University for a second time. The first time the team played SBU it won (6-3), this second meeting saw the Lady Lions defeating the Lady Bearcats, again (6-2).
The last time Sheryl Posch and Lacey McMunn faced Iza Ferreira and Valeria Jones they lost (9-8, 7-4), this time they won, 8-2.
The next match for the Lady Lions will be at 4 p.m. on Monday at home against Lincoln University. Jane Posch said playing Lincoln will help the team get ready for the conference tournament held at NWMSU.
