People should think before they speak
Renee Descartes walks into a bar and starts drinking. A little while later he gets up to leave, the bartender asks him “How about one for the road?” Descartes answers “I don’t think so,” and poof he disappears.
Of course you all understand this joke because you know Descartes came up with the idea “I think therefore I am,” but it makes me wonder how some people even exist. I hear a lot of people who just say whatever they are thinking, if they are thinking at all. It’s kind of like people saying the French and Germans hate Americans. This is just not true, the French and Germans support us. They just don’t want to go to war. And can you blame these countries for not wanting to go to war?
I can’t. Germans are just now able to talk about World War II and not have someone stop them. These countries have been through a lot, and I don’t blame them for not wanting to go to war. But I digress from my original argument.
My argument is that people don’t know what they are talking about half the time. They don’t seem to think about anything at all. I will use an example of something that helps prove this point, sort of. Last semester when Josh Ray wrote his column, The Chart got a massive response from people in the community. A lot of people talk about his column, but how many want to talk about the responses. These responses were not researched to help prove that he was wrong, they seemed to be written in anger, and some of them attacked Josh personally.
I don’t know about you, but this seemed to help prove his point. All someone had to do was to take approximately 15 to 30 minutes of research on the Internet to help prove that he is wrong about the Bible not being valid.
It’s not that hard, but people don’t think before they speak, or in this case, write.
All I’m trying to say here is to make sure you know what you are talking about, or at least back up what you are talking about with some sound information. It’s not hard at all.
The simplest thing to do before you even open your mouth is to think.
Because humans are able to think, that is what separates us from the animals, according to good old Descartes. But people not thinking makes me wonder if we really evolved from monkeys.
But I don’t think so.
