Losing streak reaches five games
The Lions have been slipping as of late, losing two straight and four of their last five, as well as six of their last eight. Things would not change last week, as the Lions traveled to Bolivar, Mo. on Thursday, Feb. 9th, and to Warrensburg, Mo. on Saturday, Feb. 11th.
The Lions started the road stretch with a loss to the Bearcats of SBU 70-60. The Lions fell to a losing record of 11-12 (6-8). The Lions got off on a wrong foot in this game, trailing 24-10 at the end of the first quarter. They were also without their star player and senior leader, Deb Holcomb, who went down eight minutes into the game.
On Saturday, in Warrensburg, Deb Holcomb would remain out against the Jennies. The 15th ranked Jennies proved to be much too tough for Southern with their number one scorer absent from play. UCM would win this one by a wide margin 74-47.
Southern has now lost 4 straight, and eight of their last ten. Southern will be back in Joplin Wednesday, Feb. 15th against Mo. Western. The Lions hope to turn things around quickly before the MIAA tournament.
