Grocery bingo provides food, entertainment for students
Primed to go before a week of events, the Campus Activities Board met for its final weekly meeting before hosting performances by local astronaut Janet Kavandi, ghost hunter John Zaffis and comedienne Tammy Pescatelli.
The Board has been dedicated to the events for weeks now.
“We’re trying to survive until next week,” said Julie Blackford, director of student activities.
CAB is planning several events to finish out the semester, such as grocery bingo. The event will work like regular bingo, the exception being the prizes.
“Instead of giving away cash, we give away groceries,” Blackford said. “It’s a different prize other than a T-shirt.”
Other upcoming events include a karaoke night, and a photo scavenger hunt, scheduled for Oct. 27.
People interested can sign up Monday in the student activities office in the second floor of the Billingsly Student Center. Prizes are to be determined, but will likely be gift certificates for dinner or to a local spook house. The contest is limited to the first 20 entries.
CAB is also working on a movie night at Joplin’s Cinema 6. CAB would pay for students admission and refreshments.
“We’re going to try and rent the theater,” said Daniel Horner, junior health promotion and wellness major. “We want show a Christmas movie.”
The project is still in the works.
On Nov. 17, CAB will sponsor a $1 burger and chip day. For $1, students can buy a burger, chips and a drink. Donations will go to the United Way.
Donations will also be accepted on Tuesday during Pescatelli’s performance. Pescatelli will be performing at 8 p.m. in Taylor Performing Arts Center. The event is free to the public but rated for mature audiences.
Finishing out the semester, CAB is planning a wrap-up party. This will be a time before the holidays for students to wrap presents, eat holiday treats and watch a movie.
Students with ideas or interest in CAB are invited to attend the weekly meetings every Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the student activities office.
Your donation will support the student journalists of Missouri Southern State University. Your contribution will allow us to purchase equipment and cover our annual website hosting costs.
