CAB offers spooky night for interested students
Students will receive a free scare from the Campus Activities Board on April 28.
CAB is hosting a movie night and a trip to the Joplin Spooklight.
“We’ve been doing movie nights at Hollywood Theaters,” said Julie Blackford, director of student activities. “Those have been a success.
Then we decided to tack on a trip to the spooklight.”
This will be the second trip CAB has taken to the Spooklight. The first trip took place when ghost hunter John Zaffis came to Southern.
CAB took Zaffis and a group of students to the infamous Spooklight, where some said
they were successful in seeing the light.
“We’re going to the spooklight because we saw it,” said Jason Givens, senior CIS major.
“We saw this light coming towards us and we ran. It was kind of neat to have a guy who looks for ghosts and has seen a lot of things, he came here he’d never seen anything like that before in 20 or 30 years.”
Blackford said she wanted to make another trip to the spooklight in the future.
“We figured, scary trip, scary movie,” Blackford said.
CAB will be showing White Noise at 8:30 p.m. by the residence halls.
White Noise will not debut on DVD for another month.
“It’s outside, so hopefully it will set the mood,” said Grahm Dickinson, senior finance major.
Immediately following the movie, a bus of about 25 students will make a trip to the Joplin Spooklight.
The bus will only be available to the first 25 students who sign up.
“That’s all we have room for,” Blackford said.
Blackford is encouraging anyone interested to sign up in the Student Activities Office on the second-floor of the Billingsly Student Center.
The movie and the trip will be free to students.
Free food, candy and drinks will be provided for the duration of the movie.
“Hopefully, we’ll have nice weather,” Blackford said.
The movie night and Spooklight trip will be one of the final events CAB is sponsoring for the semester. Following will be the Spring Fling picnic on April 29, followed by Finals Madness on May 4.
