Volleyball improves record to 6-5 overall
Serving up a win and a loss, the Missouri Southern volleyball team competed in the CMSU Challenge Sept. 9.
The Lions’ first match was against the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Southern won the match 3-1.
Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Hoffmeister led the team in kills with 15.
She earned 17.5 points. Ashley Hill, freshman outside hitter, earned 14 kills and 18 points.
Ashley Mehrer, junior middle hitter, and Ashley Wright, sophomore middle hitter, had 11 and nine kills, respectively.
Southern next played the University of North Alabama, losing 3-0.
Mehrer led the Lions in kills with 13 and points with 14.5.
Hill was next with 12 kills and 12.5 points.
The women returned home Sept. 13 to take on Southwest Baptist University.
The Lions won the conference opener 3-1.
Hill had 16 kills and 19 points.
Mehrer earned 15 kills and 15.5 points, and Hoffmeister had 13 kills and 18 points.
The win against SBU brought the Lions’ record to 6-5 overall and 1-0 in the MIAA.
Their next game is at 6 p.m. Friday at home against Arkansas Tech University.
Saturday, they take on Harding University at 11 a.m. at home.
Wednesday, the Lions travel to Topeka to play the Washburn University Lady Blues.
Mehrer received the Wilson/MIAA Volleyball Hitter of the Week award for her efforts last week.
