Dance club set to reopen doors soon
Previously popular 18-and-up hang out for Missouri Southern students is re-opening their doors in a new location.
King Jack Sport Bar & Grill is tentatively scheduled to open Wednesday for college night.
King Jack’s new location in Carthage is around 10 minutes away from campus.
Will Harmon, a 2005 Southern graduate in computer animation, has taken over as owner. Bruce Layman and the previous owner, Jerry Harmon, will be the general managers.
An entire room, the Lion’s Den, is dedicated to Southern students. It contains two pool tables, two big screen televisions and Southern banners.
“I never went to the old King Jack’s, but I’ll probably check out the new one,” said Amanda Curtis, sophomore speech and communication major. “It sounds like it’d be fun and it’s something to do.”
The entire place is trimmed in green and gold and has sports memorabilia from many national teams adorning the walls.
The bar is bigger than before and will include two or three bartenders, as well as two plasma screen televisions. If customers don’t feel like watching one of the many televisions scattered around then they have a choice between games, pool tables and dartboards.
“We also have a full-service kitchen now,” said Jerry Harmon, general manager. “The back room will be reserved for dinner, but we’ll have some TV’s in there too.”
The dance floor is about the same size as the past location, but has been upgraded with a booth for DJ Sam McDonald.
Seating has been increased and the bar capacity is now upwards of 400.
“We’ll be open for Super Bowl Sunday,” said Jerry Harmon. “Steelers play the Seahawks and we’ll be providing hot wing and drink specials.”
Hours of operation will be Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1:30 a.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. until midnight. Wednesdays are college night and Friday and Saturdays are ladies night. The new location is at 533 West Airport Drive in Carthage.
“When the weather warms up, we’ll open the patio,” Jerry Harmon said.
