Disc jockey takes spring break tour to Carthage
Spending Valentine’s Day alone and have a love for music or maybe just want the opportunity to be on MTV?
Sam McDonald, sophomore broadcasting and business major, is bringing Missouri Southern students and the community the opportunity to see a disc jockey recently voted top in America by the Sundance Film Festival.
King Jack Sports Bar and Grill is throwing a hip-hop party with one of Nelly’s personal spin doctor, DJ Silver, at 8 p.m. on Tuesday as part of the “Pimp Juice Spring Break Tour”.
“I met Silver in Springfield and we became friends,” McDonald said. “I’ve worked at King Jack’s for about a year DJing. on Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays. He’s coming through as a favor to me.”
During a regular week listeners can hear McDonald on KSYN 92.5. One can also find him spinning at King Jack’s on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. DJ Trainwreck taught Sam how to spin and led him to be friends with DJ Silver and others.
“There will be a five dollar cover,” said Jerry Harmon, manager. “We’ll have the same drink specials as we normally do and the kitchen will be open. Plus DJ Silver will be giving away some Nelly autographed items as well.”
The “Pimp Juice Spring Break Tour” has local stops in Springfield on Monday at Traffic Downtown Club, King Jack Sports Bar and Grill on the Tuesday, in Stillwater at Willy’s Bar on Feb. 17, and in Fayetteville at Grubs Bar on Feb. 18.
DJ Silver’s résumé includes some work for MTV as well as celebrity birthday parties, such as Tommy Lee and Carmen Electra.
If you’d like to hear his music before committing to an evening you can check him out on KSYN 92.5 doing a live mix from 4:50 p.m. to 5:35 p.m. on Tuesday. He also has a Web site at http://www.myspace.com/djsilverstl with a complete list of stops on the “Pimp Juice Spring Break Tour.”
Some of the contestants off MTV’s “Gauntlet” and “Road Rules” will also be present and a MTV film crew will be on hand. There is always a chance to be on television.
“From 8 to 9:30 p.m. there will be a viewing of National Lampoon’s Jake’s Booty Call,” Harmon said.
