Road loss ends Lions’ season
UPDATE:MWSU beats Lions March 2, 79-59 in first-round.
Finishing fifth in the MIAA, Missouri Southern’s women’s basketball ended its regular season Feb. 25 with a loss.
The Lions lost on the road 75-65 against the Lady Hornets of Emporia State University.
Marina Caran, junior guard, led Lions’ scoring. She put up 22 points.
Meghan Welch, freshman forward/guard, added 19 points for Southern.
Both Welch and Caran hit six three-point shots, and Caran had seven assists.
Next on the points list was Robin Kantin, sophomore guard, with 10.
Kantin also led rebounding, with eight. Caran and Dacie Reutlinger, senior forward, had seven rebounds apiece.
Brianna Volmer, sophomore center, was next with six rebounds.
Maryann Mitts, head women’s basketball coach was unavailable for contact.
Southern earned the fourth-place seed in the MIAA Postseason Tournament.
The Lions played Missouri Western State University March 2 in the opening round, but the Griffons sent them packing.
MWSU defeated the Lions 79-59.
This brings the Lions’ season to an end.
Kantin, sophomore guard, led Lions’ scoring with 18 points.
Dana-Mae Robbs, junior forward, was next with 14 points. Robbs also had eight rebounds for Southern.
