Halftime a welcome break for Lions
Junior forward Tynesha Pierce scored 10 points in less than six minutes, but, after picking up two quick fouls and sitting, Northwest went on a big run to go into halftime with a 46-34 lead.Pierce sat on the bench for nearly 12 minutes in the first half, but still led all scorers at the intermission. The Lady Bearcats were led by senior forward Lauren Williams with nine. Northwest was able to get solid point production from just about all of its players and shot 7-16 from the 3-point arc to give itself a 46-34 lead at the break.Southern owned a 20-16 advantage in the rebounding column, but only shot 38.7 percent from the floor (12-31) compared to 51.6 percent for the Bearcats (16-31).After Pierce, sophomore guard Danielle Devader was next in scoring for the Lions with six on 2-5 shooting and 2-4 from beyond the arc.Southern also turned the ball over 12 times compared to nine from Northwest.
