After more than two years on the local music scene Cinna the Poet releases a CD.

“Our album did come out with a label,” said Forrest Stockton, guitarist. “We didn’t just save all of our money and put it out ourselves.”

The band released its self titled CD through Milktree Records, a label under the umbrella of Orangepeel records out of San Jose, Ca. To celebrate the release Cinna the Poet had two shows.

The first was an all-ages show at The Surge, formerly Local Chaos and the second was a 21 and over show at Joplin’s Nightlife.

At the Surge Sounding the Silence and the Rats joined the lineup. And the High and Lonesome played both record release shows.

Now the band is looking forward to touring the country throughout the summer to promote their CD. The band will have an 18 day tour that will go as far west as Las Vegas and as far south as Georgia. Also planned for the summer is a west coast tour and an east coast tour.

“A lot of these shows are stilling building a foundation for a guarantee that when we go back to these places we will have a following,” Stockton said. “It’s all about starting small and getting your foot in the door.”

The band also just recently came off of a tour to promote the CD before it’s release. It played three shows before Christmas and five after.

“It’s not the CD selling the show,” said Josh Mullen, lead vocals. “It’s the show selling the CD.”

But being on the road won’t stop Cinna the Poet from remembering where it came from.

It will still play at least two or three shows a month in Joplin. Most likely the shows will be at The Surge, Joplin’s Nightlife or Kitchen Pass.

“We love out home but that doesn’t mean we only want people from our home town to hear our music,” Mullen said.

The band also plans to do the Joplin Norml 420 celebration at Joplin’s Nightlife. And is also currently participating in the Warp Tour’s battle of the bands. Currently the only way to buy the new CD is to go to a show and buy it. But it will probably be available online or at music stores in the next six weeks.

‘Good things come in six’ is also available to hear at 107, just call in. The song was even featured recently on the love it or hate it show on 107 and was ‘loved’ by multiple callers. None of which the band recognized, so as Stockton put it, it’s not just our friends calling in to make us sound good.
